Durable, high-quality anchor bridle made for boaters likely to experience a range of conditions.
This bridle has two completely independent legs with shackles for strength and redundancy. It is hand-assembled and made of US marine-grade, UV stabilized 3-strand white nylon rope with stainless steel thimbles spliced into the eyes. The bridle ships with a 3/8" stainless steel bow shackles, 2- 18" anti-chafing sleeves and hand-whipped ends. The product is available in 18' length and and is trimmed in black w/ black anti-chafing. You can optionally select a hook or buy it without one.
Note: The types of chain hooks that will accept two shackles are limited. Of the snubber chain hooks that can accept two shackles, we carry only the Victory Hook and the SeaDog Chain Gripper Plate. We offer this bridle with these hooks as a package. See the Anchor Bridles section of our site.
Select the product size based on your anchor chain size, length, weight, and freeboard of your boat. Please see the "Snubber & Bridle Sizing" tab for details.
3-strand nylon line - Nylon is ideal due to its ability to stretch and resistance to rot, chemicals, and heat. We use a soft-lay 3-strand that's easy on the hands and it's UV stabilized to limit degradation from the sun.
High-quality hardware - thimbles and bow shackles - both in 316 stainless steel. Hardware should last a lifetime, just replace the line periodically
Spliced-in eye - Splicing is stronger than sewn eyes; we use a thimble and go 7 or more tucks for strength
Anti-chafing - Chafe Pro or similar tubular webbing is included to reduce the rub and increase the product's life
Whipped end - Heavy-melt, dipped, and whipped with twine on the bitter end keeps things from unraveling
2 lengths available - Choice of 2 lengths should accommodate most boat sizes, even those with high freeboard. Contact us if you need a custom size.
Colors - Select from a choice of colors for trim (anti-chafing and whipping thread)
- Right-sizing a snubber is important; over-sizing, as with most ground tackle, is not desirable as you lose some of the energy-absorbing benefits- Boats with high freeboard (trawlers, etc) should consider the longer option- Catamarans should use a bridle- If in doubt, choose the longer option
Estimate the snubber length using the following formula:Snubber Length = (Boat Length X .4) + Freeboard Height (freeboard height meaning distance from deck or gunwale to water)
Example: (40' boat X .4) + 4' freeboard = 20' snubber length
Please contact us if you have questions regarding sizing.
In our personal experience, we rarely use the spliced eyes since we rarely deploy more than 20' of our 30' bridle. Yes, increasing scope and deploying the full-length of your snubber or bridle is generally desirable in poor conditions but sometimes it's shallow or you don't want to deal with 30' of line for a calm night on the hook. Since it's not usually desirable to payout the full length of your snubber, we made the choice to not include them in our products. We're always happy to add a spliced eye if your desire one. Please contact us for any desired customization.
