Anchor Bridle
Anchor bridles are snubbers with two lines attached to the boat and anchor rode instead of one. Bridles may be desirable over single-line snubbers as extra security for heavier boats or cruisers who occasionally encounter foul weather. The most common types of anchor bridles are Y-spliced and independent-legged. Y-spliced are essentially a single-line snubber with a 2nd leg spliced into it near the hard eye. While not as strong as the independent-legged bridle, they are more popular as they can be used with any chain hook on the market. Independent-legged bridles are effectively two snubbers connected to a single hook by a single large shackle or two smaller ones. Currently, only a few hooks on the market can accommodate this bridle design without having to use a very large and expensive shackle.
