The 48 North Marine Anchor Snubber is hand-made using high-quality, marine-grade, UV stabilized 3-strand white nylon rope with a stainless steel thimble spliced into the eye. The splice is then seized to ensure the thimble remains secure when the snubber is loaded. The product ships with an anti-chafing sleeve and a 12" soft eye for the bow cleat. It's available in 2 lengths to accommodate most boats and conditions. If you're looking for something shorter, consider one of our mooring pendants with hard and soft eyes.

3-Strand nylon line - Nylon is ideal due to its ability to stretch and its resistance to rot, chemicals, and heat. We use a medium-lay 3-strand that's strong but easy on the hands and it's UV stabilized to limit degradation from the sun.
High-quality hardware - The thimble is made from 316 stainless steel. Hardware should last a decade or more, just replace the line periodically
Spliced-in eye - Splicing is stronger than sewn eyes; we use a thimble and go 6 or more tucks for strength and in the event of pull-through
Anti-chafing - Chafe Pro or Chafe Master is our anti-chafe sleeve of choice. It's included to reduce the rub and increase the product's life
Boat end - 12" soft eye for bow cleat. Splice tails are melted to prevent fray
Length options - Choice of lengths should accommodate most boat sizes, even those with high freeboard. Contact us if you need a custom size
- Right-sizing a snubber is important; over-sizing, as with most ground tackle, is not desirable as you lose some of the energy-absorbing benefits- Boats with high freeboard (trawlers, etc) should consider the longer option- Catamarans should use a bridle- If in doubt, choose the longer option
If you want a bridle with lines shorter than 25', use the top table. There's limited elasticity in legs shorter than 25' so you have to increase the diameter in some cases to handle the load. If you desire a bridle with longer lines, use the bottom table. Still have questions? Estimate the snubber length using the following formula:Snubber Length = (Boat Length X .4) + Freeboard Height (freeboard height meaning distance from deck or gunwale to water)
Example: (40' boat X .4) + 4' freeboard = 20' snubber length

On shorter snubbers and bridles, folks tend to deploy the entire snubber/bridle whenever they anchor. They don't adjust the deployment based on the conditions, they simply put the entire length out as a matter of course. Folks that buy and use our snubbers/bridles with longer lines, tend to deploy based on conditions. Therefore, adding a soft eye at the boat end is more or less useless since they'll only deploy the full length when conditions require or they've gone ashore.
