The new 48 North Marine Economy Anchor Snubber is made of high-quality, marine-grade, UV stabilized 3-strand nylon rope and quality galvanized hardware. The thimble is professionally spliced into a hard eye and the 3/8" shackle has a working load limit of 2000 lbs. We treat the boat end to prevent unraveling - no tape needed! Add the optional hook and you're all set.

Note: We re-vamped our economy snubber line over the winter. Our former product sacrificed strength to achieve the price point needed by many budget-minded folks. We needed a product that met the price point and had the strength of our everyday products; we feel we accomplished that by moving to galvanized hardware and reducing the treatments (seizing, whipping, etc). Galvy hardware can be rough and we spent considerable time sourcing the best of the galvanized stuff out there. The good stuff is more expensive so we split the difference - losing a little in margin and adding a little to the cost. This product is solid.
3-strand nylon line - Nylon is ideal due to its ability to stretch and resistance to rot, chemicals, and heat. We use a medium-lay 3-strand that's easy on the hands and it's UV stabilized to limit degradation from the sun.

3 lengths available - Choice of 3 lengths should accommodate most boat sizes, even those with high freeboard or long bowsprits.
- Right-sizing a snubber is important; over-sizing, as with most ground tackle, is not desirable as you lose some of the energy-absorbing benefits- For maximum strength and comfort, choose the longer option (note: the only reason we sell short snubbers is the demand from boaters typically on lunch or day anchorage).- Boats with high freeboard (trawlers, etc) should consider a longer option- Catamarans should use a bridle- If in doubt, always choose the longer option.

Estimate the snubber length using the following formula:Snubber Length = (Boat Length X .4) + Freeboard Height (freeboard height meaning distance from deck or gunwale to water)
Example: (40' boat X .4) + 4' freeboard = 20' snubber length

In our personal experience, we rarely use the spliced eyes since we rarely deploy more than 20' - 30' of our 50' bridle. Yes, increasing scope and deploying the full-length of your snubber or bridle is generally desirable in poor conditions but sometimes it's shallow or you don't want to deal with 30' of line for a calm night on the hook. Since it's not usually desirable to payout the full length of your snubber, we made the choice to not include them in our products. We're always happy to add a spliced eye if your desire one.
