Sizing
Our mooring (dock) lines are handmade using premium 100% nylon, marine grade 3 strand twisted rope. The medium lay construction of our 3 strand nylon is ideal for mooring lines given its stretch, shock absorption and abrasion resistant characteristics. Nylon is inherently resistant to most chemicals, heat, rot, mildew and UV which makes it perfect for marine use. Our mooring lines are professionally spliced with 5-7 tucks and the tails are melted to prevent fray. The bitter end is melted to prevent
unraveling then
dipped for a clean finish.

Our 3 strand nylon rope meets the Cordage Institutes CI-1303 standard.
Tensile strengths for new rope are based on tests in accordance with ASTM Test Method D-4268 on new and unused rope in laboratory conditions.
Sizing Mooring Lines
Diameter
Rule of thumb: 1/8" of diameter for every ~9' in boat length erring on the high side (see table). Oftentimes, folks size up one diameter for their permanent winter lines, but a better strategy would be to use the proper size lines and double up for redundancy. Example: Purchase longer bow and stern lines. Run the line from deck-to-dock, cleat hitch it, then run it back to the deck. The line returning to the deck should be cleated somewhat slack compared to the dock-to-deck segment. Sizing up in diameter reduces the elasticity and can stress the deck hardware and crack gelcoat.
